Report: Buy and Sell Domains to Make Money

While it can be a tad… grey, (in terms of it being irritating to other web-owners, not in terms of legality) buying and selling domain names is a good way to make money online if you know what you’re doing.  Many huge businesses do it in droves; many of these domain names that are not available aren’t because a company has bought it with the idea f reselling it later when it’s worth more.  However, regular people can do the same thing and make a tidy profit off it too.  There are two ways to buy and sell domain names to make money.

Buy and Sell Bulk Domains

Mainly in the realm of larger businesses, the buying and selling of domain names in bulk is when one buys up a pile of domain names and then holds onto them until they become more profitable to resell.  The common method is to buy up many domain names and slowly leak them out to high powered industries such as telecommunications, business, and real estate; although any business can buy your domain name if its suitable for them.  Generally speaking, you’ll want to go through a membership site in order to post your domains for auction, but you may be able to do it privately as well.  While you can make a lot of money doing this, it takes some effort and you may honk off some webmasters!

The trick to making lots of money at this is to choose domain names that are as generic and basic as possible so that you can pretty  much sell it to anyone who comes looking for it.  You can hold out for more money with more generic names too since competition will go up for it.  You should also be careful not to have a company name in your domain name or you may be sued.

‘Flip’ a Site

‘Flipping’ a website, much like flipping a house, is all about taking an ancient, dusty website with potential, but an owner who can’t maintain it for yourself.  You can generally buy these old sites from the owner for a little bit of money-the owner will usually be glad to get rid of it-and then revive it by filling it with content, marketing it and doing other things with it.  Then, when the site becomes well ranked in search engines, you can sell it again at a tidy profit.  Some flippers make several thousand dollars or more a flip and it only take a few months work.

Buying and selling domain names is not an exact science, nor is there a perfect formula that will allow you definitely make easy money; but when it works, it works really well.  It can be a great way to make money if you are willing to do some research and some work and it can be done part time while doing other things.  All in all, if you can make it work for you, it will work very well and you can make good money online doing it
