What is a RRS Feed? And How To Make Money with RSS

On most blogs and websites, you may see a symbol that is reddish-orange in color and looks like a small circle with two curved lines going off the top right hand side of the circle; this is the RSS feed button.  They are most often found in a small orange box with the symbol in white, though it can be just a small text link at the top of the website.  But what exactly is it and why do you need one on your own site if you want to make easy money online?

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, depending on who you listen to. What it does is allow people to easily and quickly stay up to date on all of the new updates to their favourite blogs and sites; in essence, it’s like having a mini-subscription to the site, though of course the reader won’t get all of the same perks such as knowledge of deals.  RSS feeds are read on one of many different kinds of readers such as Feedreader and Newsgator, as well as many other smaller ones, such as through Yahoo or MyBlogger.  Subscribing to an RSS feed means that readers can keep up with what you’re doing and that means you are able to communicate directly with your customers and readers.

Adding an RSS feed to your website is pretty easy.  If you’re using a blogging platform such as WordPress or Blogger, generally the RSS feed is included as part of the platform and you don’t have to do much with it.  When you do it on your own website, you can install it as part of your Dreamweaver process or simply download a tool that lets you install it.  However, it is very important to remember to make an RSS feed to your money making website because they are extremely popular with readers.

Why?  RSS feeds are great for the readers because they allow people to subscribe to your updated work without disclosing personal information.  Many people are understandably twitchy about giving out things like their e-mail address because of fears of spam and hackers; an RSS feed requires nothing more than that the subscriber has a reader and no information is given.  This makes people more willing to subscribe to your blog or website and thus you get a wider range of readers and possible customers.

Having an RSS feed on your website is a small thing, but it can mean the difference between making a bit of money and making a lot of easy money.  They are incredibly convenient for your customers to use and they are easy or even automatic for you to install.  It’s hard to believe that something so easy can make a difference, but it really does.  Make sure you have it properly installed on your website as part of your campaign to get and keep readers and customers and you’ll make far more money than you would if you had left it off.
