Capitalizing On Exit Traffic

Since the earliest days of internet marketing, webmasters have spent many hours of the day trying to figure out a way to keep visitors on the website longer. Now there are new ways to capitalize on visitors by utilizing exit traffic. Statistics show that up to 95% of visitors will leave within seconds of visiting a web page. By using simple scripts to ask them if they really want to leave and even giving personal messages, you can increase opt-ins and sign-ups by hundreds of percent.

The first of many ways to capitalize on exit traffic is live support. When a visitor attempts to leave a webpage, an alert box pops up saying that a live representative would like to talk to them if they stay a little longer. If they stay, a box is opened which contains a chat with a (sometimes) live person. They can then talk to this person about the product and get any concerns out of the way. Unfortunately this way rarely works and even if it does, it is often very obnoxious (enough to deter visitors even).

Another way to make use of exit traffic, which is considered more reasonable and even more effective, is alert boxes. These alert boxes will pop up and ask if you really want to leave the website. This alone wouldn’t be very effective at all, in fact they would probably be closed almost immediately. To make these of some use, smarter webmasters will make the alert box redirect the open site to a different page. Also a alert box will first open that will tell the user why they shouldn’t leave, and the next alert box will allow them to leave.

The most creative idea has come about through these alert boxes in which they play sound clips to the exit traffic. The website will redirect to a page which plays a sound clip that seems to single out the visitor. By saying something like “I see you are leaving, just let me have a chance to offer you a free copy of…”, you entice the user to see what you have to offer, or even make them feel bad for leaving your site.

Experienced programmers may find it to be child’s play to make a script that does this. The problem is that very few of us are experienced programmers capable of stopping thousands of people from leaving our website. Luckily for the rest of us, you can find these scripts for cheap; unluckily, most of these scripts don’t do everything that you’ll want them to do, leaving you disappointed.

You’ll also learn what to do with these scripts to improve how many people will stop leaving to see your new offer. There are so many possibilities that have yet been unexplored. Worst case scenario, you waste 10 minutes of your day reading a free report.
